Breeding bird surveys

 

BCMESL has completed various breeding bird surveys. These include surveys of the following:

 

  • The site of a proposed new development, (provisionally involving 2,500 units and associated mixed use development), at Durieshill, near Stirling, on behalf of Nigel Rudd Ecology, in 2009, (as described in relation to the Durieshill Wintering bird survey). A comprehensive report was prepared following the completion of the fieldwork;
  • The site of a proposed new wind-farm site, near Castlecary, Falkirk, for Young Associates Environmental Consultants, in 2007. The site was on the edge of the Slamannan Plateau and comprised pasture and silage fields, shelter-belts, moorland and rough grassland areas and recently planted mixed plantations, (n.b., at an early stage BCMESL advised the client that the proximity of the site to the then proposed Slamannan Plateau SSSI and SPA rendered the proposed site very problematic, and as such it was dropped);
  • The site of a proposed new wind-farm site, near Castlecary, Falkirk, for YAEC, in 2007. The site surveyed was c.200 ha. and is on the edge of the Campsie Fells. It is comprised pasture, silage and arable fields, shelter-belts, scrub areas, moorland and rough grassland areas and recently planted coniferous plantations; and,
