A Taiga Bean Goose (Anser f. fabalis) on the Slamannan Plateau, showing its’ diagnostic features! In the winter of
2006-2007 up to 255 Taiga Bean Geese wintered in Scotland, (and only a further c.100 in wintered in England). The Scottish flock is entirely confined to the Slamannan Plateau, and invariably roosts on or immediately adjacent to land owned
by the Scotts Company (UK) Limited. This was to be exploited by peat extraction, but has now been designated as SSSI, and will soon also be designated as SPA, owing to the national and international significance of this goose flock.
