The modern environment, certainly in the United Kingdom, is largely a man-made one, with the natural world often confined to peripheral areas. In addition, although areas that are peripheral to newly constructed developments are often landscaped they are not necessarily 'wildlifed' and as such the potential to create new wildlife habitats is not always fully recognised or exploited.

However, there is often an opportunity to integrate the natural environment with the built one on a variety of projects, no matter what the type and scale involved is. BCM Environs aims to provide a service to facilitate this. The ethos of BCM Environs is "Better places to co-exist with wildlife, by design". (Alternatively, in the modern idiom the buzz phrase for BCM Environs could be, "Habitat to grow", but this is should not be seen as a trivial venture!).

BCM Environs is based in the Edinburgh Green Belt, (click here to link to location map), and therefore it is near to both the Airport and the Scottish motorway network. However, partly because this is where several old country estates meet, the local environment is relatively healthy and supports a wide variety of wildlife. In conjunction with the local estate, Brian Minshull has been able to create a sizeable pond, and in his spare time manages this and the surrounding area for wildlife, and his pleasure. Now BCM Environs is keen to explore other such opportunities and assist clients in developing natural environments and encouraging wildlife elsewhere. By bringing together a range of disciplines and expertise, BCM Environs aims to improve the environment for people and for wildlife.
